Aug. 7, 2023 - NLMK started processing discarded refractory materials into steelmaking raw materials.

Refractories are used to protect machinery and equipment from the high temperatures of molten metal. They have a relatively short service life, from hours to months, and must be replaced after that. However, they are now being recycled to make additives to improve the durability of converter linings.

The project is part of the NLMK Group's recycling initiative, which aims to return 99.5% of recycled materials back into production by 2025.
